Name: Milton & Monte
Breed: Miniature Dachshunds (aka Hotdog or Weiner Dog)
Ages: 8 years and 10 years, respectively
Building: Sahalee
Likes: Milton loves to eat and is never satisfied with just one helping of anything, whereas Monte is the attention-seeking “Sahalee butterfly” who will saunter up to nearly any stranger!
Dislikes: Both dislike big dogs, which can make for a very interesting play-time when other dogs are out and about.
Cutest habit: Both will sing back to you if you say “HEEEELLLLOOOO” really loudly a few times. Monte sorta screeches while Milton howls like a Coyote.
Worst habit: Milton likes to chew on bedding until it’s truly lost it’s “new” look; Monte however enjoys chewing on things like DVD covers.

One of our neighbourhood street trees is the Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) from the witch-hazel family. It’s a fast-growing tree, planted for its symmetrical shape and orange autumn leaves. Fruits are in “gum-balls” and each fruit has two woody horn-like projections. Sweetgums are also a good choice for places with too many maples. Enjoy the colour show as you walk the neighbourhood this fall.

We sat down with local musician Dan Hudson to ask a few questions about his music, travel, and his favourite bands.
KC: Where is “home”?
DH: Home is where the heart is… and in this case, its in Port Moody.
KC: When did you realize you were a performer and had to follow that path?
DH: I was really inspired by my uncle about 3 years ago who had been a musician for many many years… There was never really a turning point of realization, but there is a definite feeling of satisfaction when people enjoy and relate to the music you make. It’s almost another way to have a conversation with a complete stranger, and find a common ground.
KC: What musicians were inspirations to you? Who is your current favourite musician?
DH: As mentioned before, my uncle had ALWAYS been a huge source of inspiration. I really enjoy the works of city and colour, circa survive and recently the black keys. I used to be into more “new metal” but as I age, i feel that ive slightly grown away from the louder more agressive styles.

During the summer season, we are encouraged to eat more fruits and vegetables by the plentiful selection of seasonal produce at farmer’s markets and grocers. With the increasing availability of organic foods, we’re often faced with the choice between an organic and a conventionally grown item. They may look the same, but typically the organic costs more, sometimes 2-3 times more! Is it really worth the extra money?
It’s clear that reducing exposure to pesticides is a benefit to everyone, however those that benefit the most are children as their developing organ systems are far more susceptible to these toxic compounds. Remember, pesticides are designed to be toxic to the nervous systems of bugs. All toxic compounds must be processed by our livers, and the more we are exposed to, the greater the burden.
