We recently conversed with photographer, Zeynep.

1. How long have you been taking photographs professionally?

I opened my photography business in January 2010.

2. What was your profession before becoming a photographer?

I have been involved in drawing and painting for the majority of my life. I have a fine art and animation degree from Anadolu University in Turkey as well as a diploma from Vancouver Film School. I was working in the film and television industry and within the gaming industry in Turkey and Vancouver for several years.

3. How did your passion for photography develop?

After I had my beautiful daughter Azra I knew that a different life was waiting for me. I started taking her pictures and realized that photography was my match made in heaven. It was a way of finding my voice in the art world, plus channeling my newly discovered sensitive and mothering side.

4. For the photo buffs, what type of camera/equipment do you use?

I have a Canon Rebel XSI and a 50mm lens which I use for my commercial work and also a Holga camera for my personal work.

5. Your photographs are artistic and unique. What is your creative process?

I find it very beneficial to find out about my clients prior to the photo shoot so I can try to provide unique and meaningful photos to reflect each person. Every session is unique. When it comes to newborn babies, I believe they are coming from this mystical and wonderful place and I try to capture that essence into those pictures.

6. Many people are not accustomed to being photographed, how do you get them to relax and be natural?

Music of course!! There is always music in the background at my studio, It’s hard to resist a soft melody. Then I listen to my clients!! Their wants and their needs. We decide on certain shots and poses together. I don’t like to force poses on anyone, especially if it`s not going to reflect themselves in the image. Children are a whole different story. Every session turns into a big game.

7. What do you enjoy most about our Klahanie community? What would make Klahanie an even better place to live?

I love the convenient life at Klahanie. Being this close to playgrounds and grocery stores and only a 10 minute car drive from Bunzten Lake and White Pine beach is amazing!!

8. Does your family have a favorite place to eat out?

I believe that would be the Boat House. Food is amazing, wonderful view and it`s very close to Klahanie!!

9. What are you listening to on your iPod right now?

Since I am Turkish I just cant stop listening to great musicians from Turkey. My favourite is Mercan Dede.
