Charities Benefit at Klahanie’s Community Sale

Basic CMYK

Klahanie’s community garage sale is on June 15th, and in addition to entertainment and face painting, we will also be benefitting charities.  We encourage all Klahanie residents, whether registered in the sale or not, to take part and donate in one (or all!) of three ways:

Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA)

The DDA will be doing a pick up of unwanted household items in good condition.  To donate, please place your items in sturdy boxes or bags labelled with a DDA sign, and place the items in the kitchen area of the Canoe Club’s poolside lounge between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m on June 15th.  Acceptable items include clothing and any small household items from books, toys, pots, pans, dishes, glass wares, decorative items, sporting equipment, to small appliances like toaster ovens and kettles.  Please do not include any large furniture, large appliances, mattresses, cribs or car seats.  If you need assistance finding a way to dispose of these larger, or other unusual items responsibly, please visit the Recycling Council of BC, Return It Depot,  and Pacific Mobile Depot.

Share Food Bank

Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Share Food Bank.  Marked boxes will be available outside the Canoe Club in front of the BBQ, and at the entrance to the Canoe Club.  Examples of non-perishables provided by Share include canned fruit, canned vegetables, and canned meat, rice, pasta sauce, juice, cereal, granola bars and peanut butter.  Jarred baby food is also a great non-perishable to include.

Noon’s Creek Conservation Society

Cobs Bread Suter Brook (who is donating all the buns) is hosting a charity BBQ.  All proceeds from the BBQ will go to Noons Creek Conservation Society.  Purchase of meat or veggie dogs is by donation.  A lemonade stand, benefitting Noon’s Creek will also be set up by the Canoe Club entrance.

We hope to see you there!

Parents: School District 43 Community Meeting on Nov 22

Community Meeting: Moody Elementary
Thursday, November 22 at the Canoe Club
7:00pm – 8:30pm

Moody Elementary is Klahanie’s catchment school. Come meet the Principal of Moody Elementary, Christine Potter-Smith, and other representatives from SD 43.  Ask questions about:

a) Fraser Institute Standings,
b) Relocation/ rebuild of the elementary school,
c) Alternative programming – IB, French, Montessori, etc., and
d) Resources

In the last 5 years, Klahanie has been central to the evolution of the demographic in Moody Centre. And in the next 5 years, we will see an unusual level of change with the arrival of the Evergreen Line and the rebuild of the Middle School.

As part of your investment in your child’s education, come talk with the local school and the individuals closest to the change that is taking place in our neighbourhood.
